Planning a wedding can be a wonderful experience, but often when it comes down to the honeymoon, the pressure to find unique and romantic destinations to really wow your loved one can be overwhelming.

Luckily, honeymoons, ‘latermoons’ (delayed honeymoons) and romantic wedding anniversary trips are some of our favorite trips to plan, especially because our YPA founders, Nick and Ashley, have traveled across Africa as a couple themselves, enabling them to give unique ideas and personal recommendations.

Ideal honeymoon months

September to November, and February to March, are great honeymoon seasons. This is because prices are typically lower outside of peak travel seasons (summer vacation, festive months), with the busy summer vacations over, there are fewer families traveling, making it less crowded.

Honeymoon Itinerary – Trekking and traversing (11 nights) – Rwanda & Tanzania

If a wildlife-focused trip is your dream honeymoon, then we highly recommend Rwanda and Tanzania’s spectacular game viewing and top luxury lodges.

Fly in to Rwanda and spend a night in one of Kigali’s most luxurious boutique hotels. The next day you’ll drive up to Musanze to enjoy two days of exhilarating guided gorilla trekking.

Then fly to the Northern Serengeti and stay in a classic tented camp right in the middle of the action before continuing to a luxury lodge in a private reserve for the ultimate luxury safari experience.

Honeymoon Itinerary – Bush, city & sea (14 nights) – Botswana, Cape Town, Sabi Sands & Benguerra Island

Start your holiday in Botswana’s Okavango Delta – often referred to as Africa’s Garden of Eden – enjoying incredible game viewing, luxury bushveld accommodation, helicopter flights and guided walking safaris.

Then trade in the bush for the beautiful city of Cape Town where you can swim, shop, eat and explore to your heart’s content.  

When you’re ready to search again for Africa’s famous wildlife, fly up to Sabi Sand Game Reserve for luxury bush lodge living and game viewing in an entirely new setting.

And finally, finish up your vacation with 3 nights on the idyllic Benguerra Island in Mozambique.
