Maasai Association

Besides its natural beauty and wildlife, experiencing Kenya’s rich culture is a big part of why we love the country. That’s why we’ve been supporting the important community capacity-building work of the Maasai Association as a family for more than 15 years. It’s a community-based non-profit organization and NGO (based in Bellevue, WA, and the Kajiado Central District of Kenya) with a mission to preserve Maassai culture and integrate the Maasai people into the modern world. The work they do is truly phenomenal, from building schools, learning centres and health clinics to creating job opportunities and assisting with sustainable farming practices to ensure food security.

It’s important to us that they measure their success based on the number of children with access to formal education, clean drinking water, and lives saved through the village clinic and reproductive health program. The support they receive goes to medical and school supplies, tuition for students, and infrastructure like solar panels and maintaining of waterholes for wildlife and the local community.
