Experience
Madagascar

A wild destination offering true discovery.

About
Madagascar

Madagascar is unlike anywhere else in Africa, and in many ways, anywhere else on Earth. Millions of years of isolation have allowed its plants and animals to evolve independently. Lemurs, chameleons, fossas, unusual insects, ancient baobabs, and entire families of species exist here and nowhere else.

This extraordinary biodiversity is spread across landscapes that change dramatically throughout the country. Tall rainforest gives way to dry forest, limestone formations, spiny desert, mangroves, coral reefs, and tropical islands.

Experiencing Madagascar requires commitment. Distances are considerable, roads can be rough, domestic flights may change, and some of its most rewarding areas are remote. Even the best-planned trip demands patience and a willingness to adapt.

Madagascar may not suit every traveler, but that is part of its appeal. For those who are curious, adventurous, and prepared to make the effort, the reward is access to wildlife, landscapes, and experiences that cannot be found anywhere else.

Highlights

  • Hike through Andasibe. Explore tall rainforest in search of indris, sifakas, chameleons, geckos, frogs, and endemic birds. The landscape of mist, ferns, vines, and towering trees feels almost otherworldly.
  • Spot wildlife found nowhere else. Different regions support different species of lemur, reptiles, birds, and plants. Wildlife experiences take place on foot and reward patience, curiosity, and a closer look.
  • See the Avenue of the Baobabs. Walk beneath towering Grandidier’s baobabs near Morondava, where the sculptural trees rise from the dry western landscape.
  • Dive beneath the surface. Snorkel and dive among coral reefs or plan your trip around the seasonal whale shark aggregation near Nosy Be, generally between September and December.
  • Accept the Adventure. Long travel days, changing schedules, and simpler infrastructure are part of the experience. We choose routes carefully and remain honest about the flexibility each trip requires.
Madagascar offers a wild
and diverse adventure.
Why we love Madagascar

Madagascar brings back the feeling of true discovery. The forest hiking is extraordinary. Trails lead beneath high canopies, through dense vegetation, giant ferns, and tangled vines. Lemurs move through the trees, chameleons disappear among the leaves, and unfamiliar calls echo from deeper in the forest.

We also love the contrasts. The misty landscape of Andasibe feels entirely removed from the dry west, where ancient baobabs rise above the red earth.

Beyond the land, coral reefs, clear water, and seasonal whale shark encounters reveal another side of Madagascar. Madagascar asks more of you, but it offers experiences that cannot be found anywhere else.
